Burghley Park Golf Club came into being in 1890 and has since developed into one of the most pleasing and enjoyable parkland courses in the country. A par 70 for men and 72 for ladies, it offers many challenges but a very fair test for a range of handicap abilities.
In particular the club has developed a high standard of greenkeeping. The club’s dedicated in house greenkeepers and their use of unique sub-soils, provide excellent drainage and continual growth throughout the seasons, keeping the fairways as good as any course home or abroad.
The indigenous tree species as well as being one of the aesthetic highlights of the course provides a particular golfing challenge even on the shorter holes, where accuracy is all important. The greens are always quick and true, with a reputation as being the best in the area, and can provide a keen test of putting ability in reading the lines and borrows, even the short puts need to be assessed with care!
Mindful of maintaining the high standards of the course, in 2007 the club engaged Tom McKenzie, whose company has advised upon 27 of Golf World's top 50 courses including 6 of the 9 open championship venues, to devise a strategic 5 year plan to extend challenges, ensure continued fairness of play to all golfing abilities and to establish a sympathetic and enhanced development of the trees, shrubs and plants around the course. This plan has already started and forms part of the winter work programme.
In 2005, a significant investment was made in a new magnificent clubhouse. Externally featuring the attractive local Stamford stone, the interior is fitted out with excellent male and female locker rooms, a lounge with a Sky lcd screen, spike bar and an extensive patio area overlooking the impressive 18th green. Also incorporated is the Professional shop, with excellent stocks of the latest golf clothing, clubs and accessories, where you will find Glenn and his staff are keen to help in any way possible, including course advice and the signing in for members’ guests and visitors.
With a splendid open plan area for restaurant use, Tony and his staff, prepare daily food to a high standard where service with a pleasant smile is always the case. We can cater for societies, parties and a wide range of functions, so please give Tony a ring. If it’s beverages you want then Rod our bar steward and his staff will look after you with a friendly and warm welcome. The extensive wine list and guest ales are popular with members and visitors alike.
If golf is only part of your pleasure, then Stamford, one of the top ten towns as voted by the Sunday Times is a thrill to visit and being adjacent to Burghley House, you have one of the most prestigious country houses together with its surrounding park famous for the Burghley Horse Trials.
We hope you enjoy your time at Burghley Park Golf Club, and if you are a visitor, we hope that you come again or even consider joining?
