Steeped in more than a hundred years of traditions you will be warmly welcomed when you visit Teesside. In recent times a re-furbishment of the clubhouse has left the club with some of the best facilities in the region as well as one of the best golf courses.

A group of local golfing enthusiasts were inspired to found a golf club after the Mayor of Stockton in a public speech deplored the fact that there was no golf course in either Stockton or Thornaby.
After a meeting in Stockton Town Hall it was decided to found Teesside Golf Club and the course was opened on the 23rd May 1901.

The original course was only 6 holes, reclaimed from old marshes at Mandale Bottoms. Surrounded by the River Tees, the course was particularly prone to flooding, however recent extensive drainage improvements have benefited the course greatly.

The Clubhouse was opened in 1932 and was originally an old granary to which ships coming up the Tees delivered their grain. The site also boasted a windmill that was mentioned in the cartulary records of 1275 and was burnt down in 1881.

Teesside Golf Club - a great golfing challenge
From the beginning, when the great Harry Vardon was invited to inspect it in 1903, the golf course has become not only, at 6,535 yards, one of the best tests of golf in the area, but also a haven for many species of wildlife.

Harry Vardon and George Duncan revisited in 1911 and played in a series of matches documented by local newspapers. Other celebrities who have played the course include Max Faulkner, Bernard Gallagher, Brian Barnes and Malcolm Gregson.

The Globe Theatre in nearby Stockton attracted many stars who relaxed with a round of golf and included Eric Morecambe and Ernie Wise, Sir Harry Secombe, Guy Mitchell, Ronnie Ronalde, Arthur Haynes, Roy Castle and many more!

The present course record is 64, held by Graeme Storm, a former Amateur Champion, who now plays on the European Tour.

Teesside's 18 hole, 6,535 course is a nicely balanced, flat, parkland course with four par 5 and four par 3 holes.

The fairways are tree lined with becks and ponds to catch the wayward shot. The course is not physically demanding, making it ideal for players of all ages.

You will always be assured of great golfing experience when you visit Teesside Golf Club.
